The authorities in Saudi Arabia have declared Friday, March 20, 2026, as Eid-el-Fitr following the non-sighting of the crescent moon marking the end of Ramadan.
The announcement was made on Wednesday via the official HaraminInfo social media platforms, which confirmed that the Shawwal moon was not sighted in the Kingdom.
“The crescent moon has NOT been sighted in Saudi Arabia. Therefore, #EidAlFitr will be celebrated on Friday, 20th March 2026,” the statement read.
The platform also offered prayers for Muslims worldwide, asking Allah to accept the fasting, nightly prayers, and good deeds observed during the holy month of Ramadan.
The declaration means Ramadan will complete 30 days in Saudi Arabia before the commencement of Shawwal.
In Nigeria, Muslims are awaiting an official announcement from the President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs and Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, who traditionally confirms the sighting of the moon and declares the date for Eid-el-Fitr in the country.
