Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu has emerged the winner of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary election in Edo State.

This was announced by the Chairman of the APC Primary Election Committee and Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodinma on Monday, in Benin, the state capital.

Uzodinma, announcing the result of the polls which was held across the 192 wards in the state, said Ize-Iyamu polled 27,388 votes ahead of Pius Odubu, his closest rival who had 3,776 votes.

“Iyamu having scored highest in the primary election is hereby returned candidate of the APC in the coming governorship election,” he said.

“This election is one of the most clinically exercised in the history of elections in Nigeria. This state which originally belongs to the APC will return to the APC after the governorship election.”

According to Channels, the Imo State Governor said the election was a formality in accordance with the guidelines of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as the other aspirants had already stepped down before the polls.

Ize-Iyamu will now go against whoever emerges winner in the PDP and other parties’ primary election, in the September governorship election in the state.
