Nigeria’s Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, has announced plans to remove graduates from Benin Republic and Togo from government service due to their degrees being obtained from unauthorized institutions.

He made this announcement during an interview with TVC News on Friday.

Prof. Mamman revealed that a report regarding unauthorized universities in Benin and Cotonou had been submitted to the Federal Executive Council, which has approved the recommendations from the Federal Ministry of Education for implementation.

“The report has been submitted, and the Federal Executive Council has approved the recommendations from the ministry. We will hold a press conference tomorrow to provide detailed information,” he stated.

“Graduates from institutions that lack official approval in those countries will not be recognized in Nigeria. Those already employed in any government agency or major organization will be identified and removed from service.”

Prof. Mamman added that close to 21,000 students graduated from these unauthorized institutions between 2017 and the time of the investigation.

“If they’re employed in Nigeria, they will be identified and removed, as their qualifications are illegal even in the countries where they were obtained, let alone in Nigeria. More details will be provided at tomorrow’s press conference,” he concluded.
