The National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress, Nentawe Yilwatda has warned aspirants seeking elective offices on the party’s platform to maintain discipline, embrace peaceful conduct during the forthcoming primaries, or risk severe sanctions.
Yilwatda gave the warning in a statement issued through his Special Adviser on Media and Information Strategy while addressing aspirants who recently participated in the party’s screening exercises for the 2027 electoral process.
The APC chairman said the party remained committed to transparent, peaceful, credible, and democratic primaries capable of strengthening internal democracy and sustaining public confidence in the ruling party.
He cautioned that the party leadership would not condone any act capable of disrupting the conduct of the primaries, stressing that aspirants or supporters found instigating violence, sponsoring unrest, engaging in anti-party activities, or undermining the integrity of the process would face disciplinary actions, including suspension from the party.
According to him, the APC had built a reputation as one of Nigeria’s most organised political parties and would not allow personal ambitions to override the collective interest of the party and national stability.
“In every democratic contest, only one person will eventually emerge victorious. What is important is the spirit with which the process is approached. I urge all aspirants to display maturity, patriotism, and good sportsmanship by embracing the outcome of the primaries in the overall interest of the party and our democracy,” he stated.
Yilwatda further urged aspirants to conduct themselves as ambassadors of the APC, noting that their actions before, during, and after the primaries would reflect the values and discipline of the ruling party.
The APC chairman also commended Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what he described as his commitment to strengthening democratic institutions and ensuring credible internal party processes.
He said President Tinubu had continued to deploy political goodwill and leadership capacity toward building a stronger and more united APC capable of delivering sustainable development to Nigerians.
The party chairman advised aspirants and stakeholders to align with the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda and avoid actions capable of creating division or overheating the polity.
“The Renewed Hope administration is laying a solid foundation for a stronger and more prosperous Nigeria. This is not the time for destructive politics or selfish interests that may put a dent on the remarkable progress that has been achieved,” he said.
Yilwatda noted that despite inheriting significant economic and structural challenges, the Tinubu administration had embarked on reforms aimed at repositioning the country for long-term growth and economic stability.
He highlighted ongoing investments in road infrastructure, rail transportation, energy, agriculture, digital innovation, and support for small and medium-scale enterprises as part of the administration’s efforts to achieve a $1 trillion economy.
The APC chairman maintained that the administration’s policies in key sectors, including oil and gas, solid minerals, education, healthcare, and technology, were already yielding positive results capable of improving economic productivity and living standards.
He also called on party members and stakeholders to remain united ahead of the 2027 elections and work toward the reelection of President Tinubu.
Yilwatda reaffirmed the commitment of the APC leadership to fairness, inclusiveness, justice, and internal cohesion, assuring Nigerians that the party would continue to provide leadership focused on development, stability, and national progress
