Again, Okonjo-Iweala Makes Forbes’ 100 Most Powerful Women List
Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO), Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, has once again been named among Forbes’ 100 Most Powerful Women in the World, marking her eighth appearance on the prestigious list, and this time, she also graces the magazine’s cover.
In a statement shared on her X handle, Okonjo-Iweala said the recognition comes with renewed responsibility, noting that she remains committed to championing reforms in the rules-based multilateral trading system.
“With power comes responsibility! We are doing our best to fight for and reform the rules-based multilateral trading system which the world needs to avoid a chaotic approach to world trade that would hurt the smallest and the least powerful countries,” she said.
The WTO chief extended warm congratulations to all women featured on the 2025 list, with a special shout-out to African leaders celebrated alongside her. These include President of Namibia, HE Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah; Prime Minister of the Democratic Republic of Congo, HE Judith Suminwa Tuluka; Mpumi Madisa, CEO of Bidvest; media entrepreneur Mo Abudu, CEO of EbonyLife Group; and Prime Minister of Barbados, HE Mia Amor Mottley.
Okonjo-Iweala’s repeated recognition by Forbes underscores her sustained influence in global economic governance and her role in advocating fairer trade systems that prioritize vulnerable nations.
