A fresh controversy has erupted within the Kano State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as a party stalwart, Adnan Mukhtar Tudun Wada, dismissed claims that the party leadership had imposed a governorship candidate ahead of the forthcoming elections.
Reacting to a recent press conference by a group described as ADC stakeholders in Kano, Tudun Wada accused the organizers of spreading misinformation by alleging that the party leadership had endorsed a particular governorship aspirant.
He maintained that the individual who purportedly acted as the party chairman no longer holds the position following a judgment of the Federal High Court, adding that the party was in the process of setting up a caretaker committee to oversee its affairs.
According to him, the national leadership of the party is currently addressing issues relating to aspirants seeking various political offices across the country before making any final decisions.
Tudun Wada also dismissed claims surrounding the appointment of a Chairman of the Elders Committee, insisting that no such endorsement was made by the party.
“I have come to realize that this is being done out of sheer greed for power and relevance at a time when the so-called elder should be taking some rest from the political space, considering his insignificant antecedents in Kano politics,” he said.
The party chieftain revealed that the ADC had convened a consensus meeting involving two leading governorship aspirants, Alhaji Ibrahim Ali Amin Little and Ibrahim Khalil, during which both contenders agreed to work together and accept the eventual decision of the party regarding its governorship ticket.
He expressed surprise that while the consensus committee was yet to submit its final report, a press conference emerged claiming that an election had been conducted and a candidate endorsed.
Questioning the credibility of the alleged exercise, Tudun Wada said, “If an election truly took place, why did Ibrahim Khalil sign a consensus agreement in Abuja if he believes in the authenticity of that election?”
He reaffirmed the loyalty of his group to the party and pledged support for the ongoing consensus process, stressing that members would not take any action capable of undermining the integrity of the committee or the party.
“We are loyal party members. We will not do anything that will undermine the integrity of the consensus committee and our great party. We are patiently waiting for the decision of the national leadership,” he stated.
Tudun Wada further expressed confidence in the prospects of Ibrahim Ali Amin Little, describing him as committed to the growth and development of the party.
He said supporters remain hopeful that Amin Little would eventually emerge as the ADC governorship candidate in Kano State, assuring that party members would rally behind whoever is chosen by the national leadership.
The development underscores growing tensions within the Kano ADC chapter as stakeholders await the outcome of the party’s consensus process ahead of the election season
