The price of petrol at the pump unexpectedly climbed on Tuesday, with some independent oil marketers in the state raising the price from N515 to N595 per litre.
Checks revealed that the Sani Abacha Motorway and Isaac Boro Motorway in Yenagoa, which are operated by the NNPCL and PADOS, have started charging N595 per litre for petrol.
However, Rainoil facilities located along the Mbiama-Yenagoa Road and the Isaac Boro Expressway increased their pump price of the product to N591 per litre while SOBAZ re-adjusted their meter to reflect N590 per litre.
It was observed that some of the independent sales outlets did not open for business.
The PUNCH gathered that the petrol stations sold the product at N515 per litre as of Monday and Tuesday morning before news of the current increase in pump price filtered into town.
A filling station attendant at one of the facilities, who did not want his name mentioned, said that they received instructions from their head office to re-adjust the meter to reflect the new price.
He said, “Yesterday (Monday), we sold fuel at N515 per litre; even this (Tuesday) morning we were selling at N515 but our head office called us to sell at this new price.
