The death of Vera Uwaila Omozuwa who was raped and eventually passed away at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) and a host of similar other tragic incidents lately had sparked outrage as many resumed the call for an end to gender-based violence in the country.

Chieftain of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu is the latest of eminent Nigerians to join the call for justice for women and young girls who have been victimised for sexual assault.

Tinubu, sharing a post on his Twitter handle on Tuesday, noted that too many women “have been hurt, intimidated and bullied”. Adding that too many have died of such inexcusable violence and there is nothing that can defend the wrongdoing.

“Omozuwa is the most recent name on a list, far too long, of women who have lost their lives at the hands of these vile criminals,” he said.

“Today, I rise in solidarity with women in Nigeria to say #enoughisenough.”

The APC national leader wrote: “For far too long women and young girls in our nation have suffered the pain, hurt and stigma of gender-based violence and abuse.

“Too many have been hurt, intimidated and bullied. Too many have died. Such violence is inexcusable. There is nothing that can defend this wrongdoing.

“All of us are born of woman and nurtured of woman. Vera Uwaila Omozuwa is the most recent name on a list, far too long, of women who have lost their lives at the hands of these vile criminals. Today, I rise in solidarity with women in Nigeria to say #enoughisenough.

“JusticeforUwa #JusticeforJennifer #JusticeforTina. JUSTICE for all victims of gender based violence. @STinubu @ekometa @tunderahmanu.”

Earlier, MERIDIAN SPY reported the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Mohammed Adamu, ordered the immediate transfer of the ongoing investigations into death of Omozuwa which occurred recently in Benin, Edo State from the Police State Headquarters, Benin to the Force headquarters, Abuja.

Adamu had Monday, deployed more investigations aids to Edo State to unravel the circumstances surrounding the brutal attack and unfortunate death of the 22-year-old microbiology undergraduate of University of Benin (BENIN).

He said the additional investigators will provide “forensic support to Edo State Police Command to complement and expedite actions in the ongoing investigations into the unfortunate incident”.

But on Tuesday, the IGP directed the transfer of the case to the Headquarters in Abuja for further investigation, which, according to him, is sequel to the preliminary report from the team of investigators and forensic experts earlier deployed to assist the Edo State Police Command in the investigations into the unfortunate incident.

“The DIG in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID), DIG Anthony Ogbizi Michael, will henceforth provide direct supervision and ensure speedy and thorough investigation of the case,” he added.
