Pastor Adeboye Reacts To Rape, Death Of UNIBEN Undergraduate

The General-Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye has reacted to the death of Univeristy of Benin (UNIBEN) undergraduate, Uwaila Vera Omozuwa who was raped in one of his church branches and eventually passed away at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH).

In an Instagram post on his official handle, Pastor Adeboye said all he can do at this time is to pray for the family of Omozuwa and do everything possible, working with relevant authorities, to bring the perpetrators to book.

“All I can do at this time is to pray for the family of Omozuwa and do everything possible working with relevant authorities to bring the perpetrators to book. I and members of my Family condemn this act strongly and urge everyone to stay calm as we are already looking into the matter and cooperating with the police to establish the facts of the shocking situation . . #justiceforuwa,” he wrote with the photo below.

Meanwhile the RCCG released an official statement confirming and condemning the tragic incident that led to the death of the 22-year-old girl.

“The attention of the leadership of the Redeemed Christian Church of God has been drawn to the condemnable incident that occurred in Benin and linked to one of the Parishes where a member was gruesomely murdered,” the statement read.

“Preliminary information reaching us confirms the death of Miss Vera Uwaila Omozuwa, a 100-level student of the University of Benin (UNIBEN). The 22-year-old member who died as a result of complications from the ugly incident.

“As a church, we are deeply touched and condemn in absolute terms this evil visited on an innocent girl as we have equally condemn any act of violence and abuse against women.

“We are consulting with the appropriate authorities to ensure that an extensive investigation is carried out in line with the position already expressed by the Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki and the culprit(s) face the full weight of the law and justice is done regardless of who is involved.”

Meridian Spy reports Sunday, the Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki ordered a thorough investigation into the circumstances that led to the death of Omozuwa.

“The @PoliceNG has been mandated to identify, arrest and prosecute anyone found culpable in her death. The Violence Against Persons (VAP) Law is in effect in our state,” Governor Obaseki tweeted.

“Using this law, we would ensure to investigate what exactly transpired and deal decisively with the those found complicit in the dastardly act, whoever they might be. #JusticeForUwa.”

  • Jilli Airstrike: Supporters Of Terrorists Will Be Treated As Bandits, Defence Minister Warns Defence Minister Christopher Musa has warned that supporters of terrorists would be treated as criminals. He said this on Monday as he reacted to the airstrike carried out by the Nigerian Air Force airstrike in Jilli, Borno State, over the weekend. Speaking after an expanded security meeting in Kaduna with the state governor and heads of security agencies, Musa said the operation sends a clear message to those collaborating with terrorist groups. He stressed that anyone found supporting insurgents would face the same consequences as the perpetrators. “A friend of a thief is a thief,” he said, warning civilians against associating with or providing any form of assistance to terrorists. Musa urged residents to steer clear of areas known to be used by insurgents, noting that proximity or collaboration could have grave consequences. The airstrike, carried out near the village of Jilli in Gubio Local Government Area, targeted what the military described as an ISWAP enclave and logistics hub. According to the Nigerian Air Force, the operation was intelligence-driven and aimed at neutralising terror elements and destroying their equipment. However, reports have emerged alleging that the strike may have affected a weekly market in the area, with civilians, including cross-border traders, reportedly among casualties. Musa, however, maintained that the strike should serve as a strong warning to those aiding insurgent activities, reaffirming the military’s resolve to intensify operations against terrorist networks. Air Component of Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI, conducted a precision air strike on a known terrorist enclave and logistics hub located near the abandoned village of Jilli in Gubio Local Government Area of Borno State. Giving an update on the airstrike, the Nigerian Army in a post on its official X handle said, “The successful strike, executed on 11 April 2026, followed sustained intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance missions over the Bindul–Jilli axis, an area long identified as a major terrorist movement corridor and convergence point for Islamic State West Africa Province terrorists and their collaborators.”
