The organised labour unions at the Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN, have threatened to shut down operations of the company if its sacked managing director, Mr. Usman Gur Mohammed is not reinstated to his position.

The Minister of Power, Engr. Sale Mamman had, yesterday Tuesday, announced the removal of the Mohammed as MD of the company and replaced by Engr. Sule Ahmed Abdulaziz who was, until his appointment, the acting Regional Transmission Manager (RTM)

According to the Special Adviser to the Minister of Power, Mr. Aaron Artimas who made the announcement, the changes was part of continuing measures to reposition and improve the performance of the power sector in the country,

But the unions, on Wednesday, trooped out in large numbers to register their displeasure over the replacement of the managing Director of the company, Mr. Usman Gur Mohammed with Engr. Sule Ahmed Abdulaziz.

Protesting at the Company’s Headquarters located in Maitama District of the Federal Capital City, FCC, in Abuja, the union threatened to shut down power infrastructure if the power ministry do not urgently reverse its decision and reinstate the sacked TCN MD.

The dissatisfied union members include the Senior Staff Association of Electricity and Allied Companies, SSAEAC, and the Nigerian Union of Electricity Employees, NUEE.

The power minister also made other changes, which include the appointment of four directors who have been on acting position in the Company for some time.
