The House of Representatives has called for intensified and coordinated security operations to secure the immediate and safe release of 116 schoolchildren abducted from communities in Borno State, alongside other victims still in captivity.
The call followed a motion of urgent public importance moved by Rep. Midala Balami, who raised concerns over the prolonged captivity of victims abducted in Mussa, Lassa and along the Buratai–Maiduguri Road.
Balami said 44 schoolchildren were abducted from Mussa on May 15, 2026, alongside 36 other persons, while another 36 students and two teachers were subsequently abducted in Lassa Ward, Askira-Uba Local Government Area.
He noted that the victims had spent weeks and months in captivity, subjecting their families and affected communities to prolonged fear, uncertainty and emotional distress.
The House urged security agencies to intensify search-and-rescue operations, improve intelligence gathering and inter-agency coordination, and strengthen security around Mussa, Lassa, the Buratai–Maiduguri Road and other vulnerable communities.
Lawmakers also called on NEMA and the North East Development Commission to provide relief materials as well as medical and psychological support to affected families and communities.
