First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has urged Nigerians to reduce food waste and adopt sustainable practices to protect the environment and promote healthier communities.
She made the call in a message marking the 2026 World Cleanup Day, observed on Sunday with the theme, “From Clean Plates to Clean Cities.”
Tinubu said the focus on food waste was particularly important amid the disruptions to food production and supply caused by climate change, conflicts and other global challenges.
She encouraged households, businesses and communities to be more responsible in the way they purchase, prepare, consume and preserve food, while also ensuring proper waste disposal.
The First Lady stressed the need for collective action to build cleaner and healthier communities for present and future generations.
She urged Nigerians to embrace sustainable habits that would help protect the environment and contribute to addressing the challenges associated with food waste.
