Oyebamiji Vows to Tackle Poverty, Revive Education, Health Sectors in Osun
The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, FCIB, has pledged to prioritise poverty alleviation, education and healthcare if elected governor in 2026.
Oyebamiji made the pledge on Saturday in Osogbo while delivering his acceptance speech after emerging as the APC flagbearer at the party’s governorship primary election.
He described Osun State as being at a critical crossroads, stressing the need for a return to accountable and people-centred governance. “Our state, Osun, is presently at a crossroads between real progress and frivolity, between accountability and wastefulness,” he said.
The APC candidate said his administration would focus on raising the standard of living of residents through deliberate policies aimed at eradicating hunger, reducing poverty and rebuilding public institutions, particularly the education and health sectors.
According to him, “We are committed to elevating the standard of living for every Osun resident by alleviating poverty, eradicating hunger and promoting a functional educational system for all,” adding that the state’s health system, which he described as moribund, would be revitalised to reduce dependence on medical tourism.
Oyebamiji expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his support and confidence in the Osun APC, as well as to the national leadership of the party, including the National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, and the National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Bashiru.
He also acknowledged the roles played by party elders and leaders in Osun, including Chief Bisi Akande and former governor and Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Dr Adegboyega Oyetola, for sustaining the party while in opposition.
Calling for unity ahead of the 2026 governorship election, Oyebamiji urged his co-aspirants, party members and other progressives to join him in what he described as a collective task of rescuing the state. “The task before us is huge but achievable,” he said, “and I sincerely invite all progressives to join me in reversing our dear state from its drift into systemic collapse.”
The APC candidate assured party leaders and residents of his readiness for leadership, expressing confidence that the party would make a strong showing in the 2026 poll.
He also paid tribute to late party leaders, including the Owa of Igbajo, Oba Adegboyega Famodun, and the immediate past chairman of Irewole Local Government, Hon. Remi Abass, urging party members to ensure that their sacrifices were not in vain.
