The Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN) has urged 78 newly inducted nurses of Elizade University, Ilara-Mokin, Ondo State, to uphold professional ethics, prioritise patient welfare and embrace innovation in healthcare delivery.
The Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of the council, Dr Ndagi Alhassan, gave the charge during the university’s third induction and oath-taking ceremony, describing the graduates as future leaders of Nigeria’s healthcare sector.
Alhassan urged the new nurses to combine clinical competence with empathy, integrity and respect for patients’ dignity, noting that the profession demands dedication, resilience and a strong commitment to service.
He also encouraged them to explore opportunities in research, teaching, policymaking and healthcare entrepreneurship, stressing that nursing practice must evolve to address emerging challenges in the health sector.
The Vice-Chancellor of Elizade University, Prof. Philip Oguntunde, similarly urged the graduates to embrace innovation and explore opportunities in home-care services, specialised maternal and child health centres, and independent health consultancy.
Meanwhile, the Head of the Department of Nursing Science, Dr Alice Ogundele, disclosed that the department recorded a 100 per cent pass rate in the recently concluded midwifery examinations. She also revealed that one of the graduates had published her research project in a reputable academic journal.
The induction marks the graduates’ formal entry into the nursing profession and precedes their one-year internship programme.
