The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has said it’s investigating a video clip circulating on social media showing soldiers engaging with bandits somewhere in Katsina State.

The Defence spokesperson, Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, said in a statement today in Abuja.

Gusau said the military is investigating the video to confirm its authenticity and to identify the soldiers involved.

Gusau said that the DHQ is aware of the resolve of some bandits to repent and hand over their weapons to the authorities and that this is yielding good results.

According to him, “Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Gwabin Musa, has assured Nigerians that the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) will engage in every lawful means possible to ensure peace and stability in the country.

“The military’s non-kinetic measures aimed at restoring peace are yielding results, with several bandits and other criminal elements surrendering to the authorities.”

He encouraged governments at all levels to allow bandits who are genuinely willing to surrender to do so while the window is still open.

Gusau said that the Defence Headquarters is doing everything possible to restore peace and tranquility all over the country, and urged all citizens to remain calm and be law-abiding.
