Her death was announced on Friday by the Chairman of Olamaboro Local Government Area, Dr Ameh Williams, in a statement issued on behalf of the Olamaboro Executive Council.
Aduku, popularly known as Hon. Rosella among her colleagues, served in the eighth Olamaboro Legislative Council.
In the condolence announcement, Williams described the late councillor as a humble, dependable and compassionate person who was committed to the happiness and welfare of those around her.
“It is with deep sorrow we announce the sudden demise of our dear sister and colleague, Hon. Mrs Rosemary Aduku, the Honourable Councillor representing the good people of Ogugu Ward III in the eighth Olamaboro Legislative Council,” the statement read.
The council chairman said Aduku’s death was a painful loss to her family, colleagues in the legislative council, members of the local government executive and residents of Ogugu District.
He expressed condolences to the bereaved family and the community, praying for strength for those mourning her death.
According to the announcement, the councillor’s burial was scheduled for 1pm on Friday at her family compound in Ogugu Centre. Members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) were also invited to attend the burial and pay their last respects.
Details surrounding the circumstances of her death in captivity, including the identities of her abductors and whether any ransom was demanded or paid, were not immediately available.
