A senior lecturer at Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, Dr Matthew Uwuigbe, has died in a hotel room in Ekpoma, Edo State, following an alleged sexual encounter with a 21-year-old commercial sex worker.
The incident reportedly occurred at a hotel in the Mosco area of Ekpoma, Esan West Local Government Area, where Uwuigbe had lodged with the woman identified as Angela Defa Jacob.
According to the Edo State Police Command, the lecturer later sent the woman out to purchase water. Upon her return, she reportedly found him lying lifeless in the hotel room.
The police said the incident was reported at about 8pm, adding that the hotel owner, manager and the woman involved have been arrested in connection with the case.
The remains of the deceased have been deposited at the Oriaifo Memorial Hospital mortuary, while police investigations continue to establish the circumstances surrounding his death.
The university’s Public Relations Officer, Otunba Mike Ade Aladenika, confirmed that Uwuigbe was a staff member of the institution but stressed that the incident occurred outside the university premises and was unrelated to the university’s official activities.
