Edo Shooting Sparks War of Words Between APC, ADC
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has strongly refuted allegations by the African Democratic Congress (ADC) that it orchestrated the reported shooting incident involving ADC executives in Edo State, describing the accusation as “delusional” and a desperate ploy for public sympathy.
In a press statement issued Wednesday in Abuja and signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, the APC said the ADC was “its own nemesis” and needed no external help to engineer its political downfall.
The ruling party accused the ADC of rushing to judgment by blaming the APC even before the commencement of any police investigation, noting that such action showed a disregard for due process and constitutional order.
“It is senseless to accuse the APC even before any investigation is carried out by law enforcement. By its baseless conclusion, the ADC has declared itself accuser, investigator, prosecutor and judge in its own cause,” the statement read.
The APC further described the ADC’s claim of “acts of terrorism by the ruling APC” as reckless and unjustifiable, saying the opposition party was trivialising the country’s ongoing fight against terrorism and the sacrifices of security forces.
The party, however, condemned the reported violence in Edo State, stressing that political violence in any form is unacceptable. It called on the police and other relevant authorities to conduct a thorough and expeditious investigation into the shooting and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.
In a sharp counter-allegation, the APC urged investigators to scrutinise the ADC, its leaders and members, citing what it described as widely reported factional clashes and leadership struggles within the party. It alleged that internal supremacy battles may have contributed to the incident.
The APC maintained that it had “absolutely no role or responsibility” in the shooting, insisting that it was focused on consolidating its recent electoral victories in the Federal Capital Territory municipal elections, as well as constituency polls in Rivers and Kano states.
The party expressed appreciation to Nigerians for what it termed “solid and growing support,” particularly voters in the FCT, Kano and Rivers states, and reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the leadership of Bola Tinubu in building a stronger and more prosperous nation.
The ADC had earlier accused the APC of being behind the attack on its executives in Edo State, a claim that has further heightened political tensions between the two parties as authorities commence investigations into the incident.
