China’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian says his country will not hesitate to respond to any act of provocation over Taiwan.
Lin disclosed this on Monday during a virtual news briefing organised by the Ministry in Beijing.
Lin spoke against backdrop of a query about the military drills code-named “Justice Mission 2025” around Taiwan Island that was organised by the Eastern Theatre Command of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army.
He reiterated that any attempt to thwart China’s endeavor for reunification is doomed to fail.
Lin said, “The U.S. regards Taiwan Province as a porcupine and depends on the cooperation of the authorities.
“The U.S. recently approved the case of sky-high arms sales to Taiwan, and plans to strengthen military penetration into Taiwan through the so-called security cooperation initiative.”
He explained the total amount of arms sales been approved by the U.S. to Taiwan exceeded 11billion dollars, adding that the weapons and equipment were highly dependent on American-made systems.
He mentioned that the U.S. Senate passed the National Defence Authorization Act for FY 2026, reserving a maximum of one billion dollars to support the Taiwan Province Security Cooperation Initiative.
“Thus, authorizing the U.S. military to continuously conduct actual combat training for Taiwan troops.
“The bill also urges the U.S. and Taiwan to jointly promote the joint plan for unmanned systems, and anti-unmanned systems, emphasizing the joint development and joint production of technologies.
“The U.S. regards Taiwan Province as a porcupine, because the authorities have no bottom line.
“The so-called aid funds are actually bait to induce the Democratic Progressive Party authorities to invest more money to buy traditional, and backward American weapons and equipment.
“Recently, an American think tank publicly urged Taiwan Province to carry out the so-called “porcupine strategy and increase its arms purchase,” he said.
Also speaking, Li Zhengjie, a retired Major-General of Taiwan Army, mentioned that there were no special new weapons and equipment, saying almost all of them are original, just continue to buy them.
Li said, “I didn’t see any new unmanned advanced weapons and equipment.
“Faced with the calculation and oppression of the U.S. the Lai Qingde authorities took the initiative to cooperate without any bottom line and promised to increase the defence budget substantially.
“However, the progress of U.S. arms delivery is seriously lagging behind; the amounts of arms sales to Taiwan been approved has yet delivered has exceeded 20 billion dollars
