Abubakar Malami, Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF), says hoodlums wearing army uniforms may have been behind the shooting of peaceful ENDSARS protesters at Lekki Toll Gate Plaza in Lagos.

Malami who spoke to newsmen in Abuja on Monday, said investigation is underway to ascertain what truly happened at the Lekki tollgate.

Despite viral video evidence on social media which captured moment armed men cladded in military uniforms opened fire on peaceful protesters seen wielding the national flag and chanting the national anthem, the AGF said it was pre-emptive to conclude a shooting truly took place at the Lekki Plaza, adding that “hoodlums” may have been hired to create a scene.

“You cannot rule out the possibility of perhaps hoodlums that set in to create a scene… could equally partake in the process,” he said.

Recall the Nigerian Army, after denying its personnel were at the scene of the shooting, later said soldiers were deployed at the request of Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the state governor, to enforce the curfew imposed to prevent further breakdown of law and order in the state.

Days t will not disclose the identity of its men who were sent to Lekki tollgate on October 20, noting that it was unethical.
