The Nigeria Senate has asked the Service Chiefs to resign their positions due to the worsening state of insecurity in the country.
The Red Chamber made the resolution on Tuesday, following a motion sponsored by Ali Ndume, senator representing Borno south and chairman of the committee on army.
Senate President, Ahmed Lawan noted that though the army was trying its best to secure the country, the effort was not enough.
Gabriel Olonisakin, chief of defence staff; Tukur Buratai, chief of army staff; Sadique Abubakar, chief of air staff; and Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas, chief of naval staff; are all due for retirement.
There have been calls for the resignation of the listed service chiefs but the President Muhammadu Buhari has refused to yield to the demand.
Army Chief, Buratai yesterday, Monday said ending insurgency in the country is not only the responsibility of the military but the citizens in general.
