A 43-year-old Nigerian-British businessman and social media influencer, Igho Ubiribo, has died after suffering a fatal medical complication following a penis enlargement procedure in Thailand.

Ubiribo, also known by the nicknames “Tiny,” “Denisi” and “Ego,” was reportedly on holiday in Bangkok with his wife, Danielle Simba Allen, when he underwent the cosmetic procedure at an unidentified clinic.

According to evidence presented during a subsequent inquest, 40 millilitres of hyaluronic acid and lidocaine were injected into Ubiribo’s penis during the procedure.

He Developed Chest Pain After The Procedure

Following the treatment, Ubiribo and his wife reportedly returned to their Marriott hotel and went for a massage.

During the massage, he complained of chest pain and subsequently lost consciousness twice. He was rushed by ambulance to Sukhumvit Hospital, where doctors were informed by his wife about the recent cosmetic procedure.

Medical personnel suspected that Ubiribo had suffered a pulmonary embolism and recommended a CT scan. However, he reportedly lost consciousness before the scan could be completed.

He was transferred to intensive care, where medical staff attempted to revive him through cardiopulmonary resuscitation for more than 100 minutes. He died in the early hours of March 6.

Coroner Links Death To Cosmetic Procedure

A subsequent postmortem examination in the United Kingdom found material in Ubiribo’s lungs consistent with the hyaluronic acid used during the procedure.

A pathologist told the inquest that the material found in his lungs matched the substance used in the cosmetic treatment and was consistent with a pulmonary embolism.

Following the evidence presented, coroner Jean Harkin concluded that Ubiribo died from a pulmonary embolism caused by the cosmetic procedure.

A pulmonary embolism occurs when a blood vessel supplying the lungs becomes blocked. It can become life-threatening when blood flow to the lungs is suddenly restricted and the heart comes under severe strain.

Who Was Igho Ubiribo?

Ubiribo was known for documenting his affluent lifestyle on social media and reportedly had approximately 185,000 followers on Instagram.

He reportedly owned a home in Los Angeles valued at about $1.1 million and an apartment in London worth approximately $600,000.

He married Zimbabwean fashion designer and socialite Danielle Simba Allen in a lavish ceremony in Zimbabwe in 2022.

Following his death, Ubiribo was buried in London in a reported gold coffin, with reports putting its cost at more than $600,000. Afrobeats star Davido, described as a childhood friend of the deceased, was among those who attended the funeral.

Renewed Concerns Over Cosmetic Procedures

Ubiribo’s death has drawn renewed attention to the potential risks associated with injectable cosmetic procedures, particularly those performed abroad.

While hyaluronic acid is widely used in cosmetic treatments, the findings presented at the inquest linked the substance used during the procedure to the fatal pulmonary embolism.

The circumstances surrounding Ubiribo’s death have raised concerns about the importance of proper medical supervision, qualified practitioners and adequate safety measures when undergoing cosmetic procedures, particularly in foreign countries.
