Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has called on residents of the state to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections, insisting that Edo must remain politically aligned with the Federal Government to sustain its ongoing development.
The governor made the appeal on Wednesday during a courtesy visit to the Ojuromi of Uromi, His Royal Highness, Zaiki Anselm Aidenojie II, at his palace in Esan North-East Local Government Area.
According to a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Patrick Ebojel, Okpebholo, who was accompanied by members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), attributed the developmental strides recorded by his administration to the support and cooperation of President Tinubu’s government.
He maintained that the Federal Government’s economic policies and reforms were beginning to yield positive results, stressing the importance of sustaining the relationship between the state and federal administrations.
The governor highlighted ongoing interventions in road infrastructure, education, healthcare and workers’ welfare, noting that his administration had completed several road projects while others were at different stages of construction.
He explained that infrastructural development required adequate planning and time, assuring residents that the benefits of ongoing projects would become increasingly evident upon completion.
Speaking on efforts to improve electricity supply, Okpebholo disclosed that a 100-megawatt power plant was expected to commence operations in Edo South, while another electricity project would contribute an additional 16 megawatts to the state’s power supply.
He expressed optimism that the projects would help address longstanding electricity challenges and stimulate economic activities across the state.
The governor further credited President Tinubu with providing the necessary federal support for his administration’s development agenda, urging Edo residents to sustain their support for the President.
He argued that maintaining a cordial political relationship with the Federal Government would enable Edo State to consolidate existing achievements and attract further developmental opportunities.
Earlier, the Ojuromi of Uromi, speaking on behalf of traditional rulers in Esanland, commended Okpebholo’s commitment to infrastructural development and improved governance.
The monarch expressed confidence in the governor’s leadership, offering prayers for divine wisdom and strength to enable him to fulfil his administration’s development objectives.
He also voiced optimism that Okpebholo would secure a second term and complete eight years in office.
