The much anticipated ‘Battle of the Brits’ showdown will now take place, after the British world heavyweight champions, Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury agreed to a two-fight deal.

Fury disclosed on Wednesday an agreement has been reached with Joshua’s camp on a two-fight deal between the current holders of the heavyweight belts.

“The biggest fight in British boxing history has just been agreed,” Fury said in a video message on twitter. “Two-fight deal.”

Earlier on, Joshua’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, told Sky Sports that the camps had agreed to two fights.

“We’re in a good place,” Hearn said. “It’s fair to say that, in principle, both guys have agreed to that fight. Two fights.”

He also explained that no specific dates and venues have not been finalized and contracts have not been signed, but the sides have agreed on the financial terms.

“The first fight could happen next summer,” said Hearn. “There is still a lot to overcome.”

Also Fury’s promoter, Frank Warren, said “no contracts have been signed”.

“Obviously, we are keen to make the fight that British fans demand and will continue negotiations in order to deliver Tyson his shot at becoming the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world,” he added.

“Things are going in the right direction and we couldn’t be more happy that a potential mega fight is in reach.”

“The only way it could not happen is if one of the guys gets beaten,” he told BBC Radio 5 Live.

“Everyone wants it to happen. For me, this will be the biggest sporting event in this country with these fighters – four belts on the line, two Britons fighting for the world title, both champions. This is just mega. I think it’ll be the biggest sporting event in this country since England won the World Cup in 1966.

“[Fury’s] really happy. It’s something he’s wanted for a long, long time. It’s a great fight for both of them and for fans in this country and round the world.

“It’s not going to get any more competitive than this.”

30-year-old Joshua holds the WBA, IBF and WBO belts, while 31-year-old Fury is the WBC champion.
