Dr Obinna Simon, a Social Democratic Party (SDP) candidate in the upcoming FCT Area Council election says FCT Minister, Mr Nyesom Wike’s, support for the candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC) will not stop his victory.

Elections into the office of chairmen and councillors in the six Area Councils in the federal capital are scheduled to hold on Feb. 21.

Simon is flying the flag of SDP for the chairmanship position of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC).

“I am not worried. He can work with the incumbent AMAC chairman because he is the FCT minister.

“I have enough respect for Wike and believe that he will do the right thing by allowing the people to vote for their favourite candidates.

” I will defeat the incumbent because I have the right credentials. I have prepared myself for this job,” he told newsmen during a chat in Abuja on Sunday.

Simon said if elected, he would declare state of emergency in the education sector in FCT, adding that teachers welfare and infrastructure development would be prioritised.

“I shaded tears when I went round the schools in AMAC. I found children sitting on bare floor to receive lectures.

“The welfare of teachers is also very key. Teachers should be rest assured that if I win their welfare, including training and retraining will receive serious attention,” he said.

On the health sector, Simon said is administration would pay special attention to Primary Health Centres, which he said had been grossly under-funded.
