Abuja based journalist and media entrepreneur, Sunny Ibeh Jnr, has described the late Access Holdings CEO, Herbert Wigwe, as an ‘institution.’
In a statement made available to The MeridianSpy, on Sunday, Mr. Ibeh  narrated  how he met the late finance icon the first time as a young journalist at an Access Bank AGM event in Lagos in 2019.
He extolled the sterling qualities of Wigwe, noting that his death was a great loss to Nigeria. He said late Wigwe was a confluence of wealth and intelligence who found solace leading a simple and humble life.
“Herbert Wigwe was a risen star who until his death lived at the peak of his finest moment on earth; a colossus and a trailblazer. He was simply a confluence of wealth and intelligence.
I would tell you expressly that Wigwe was an institution of some sort that many never knew. Humble and simple with class! Indeed his death is a national loss to this nation.”
The chairman of board Editors of The MeridianSpy Newspaper and Corporate Head, Shevlux Media and PR, further noted that Wigwe’s legacies and strides would live and stand the test of time among other things. He condoled the Wigwe family and the Access Holdings group, while he prayed the souls of the departed rest in peace.
“I solemnly believe his records and marks of excellence will remain monuments of reference and impact across generations to come.
In this time of pain, my thoughts are with the Wigwe family, especially his three children, and the Access Holdings family. May his soul, that of his wife, son and other victims find repose in the bosom of the Lord”, he said.
Wigwe and five others died on Saturday 9th February 2024 after the Eurocopter EC130 in which they were traveling crashed near Nipton, California. Also killed were his wife, his son, former Chairman of Nigerian Exchange Group Plc Abimbola Ogunbanjo, and two crew members.
Wigwe and five others were on their way from Palm Springs Airport to Boulder City, Nevada on a charter flight operated by Orbic Air LLC to attend the Super Bowl LVIII championship in Las Vegas, United States of America.
