A woman identified as the wife of a missing suspected bandit, Muhammad, has made an emotional appeal to Nigerian military personnel, urging them not to kill suspects after arrest during ongoing security operations against banditry.
In a video that has gone viral on social media, the woman expressed concern over her husband’s whereabouts, stating that he had been missing for some time without any communication.
Addressing her husband in the video, she said, “Oh, my beloved Muhammad, the love of my life. If you are alive, may Allah grant that we meet again. If you are no longer alive, may Allah judge whoever took your life.”
She also directed a message to security operatives, calling for restraint in the handling of suspected criminals.
“If you find our men involved in robbery or any wrongdoing, please do not kill them. Once you have captured them, killing them is also wrong. Please stop killing people after arrest,” she said.
The woman’s appeal comes amid intensified military operations targeting banditry and related crimes in parts of northern Nigeria. Her comments have sparked mixed reactions on social media, with some users criticising her stance, while others interpreted her message as a call for adherence to due process and the rule of law.
Security agencies have repeatedly stated their commitment to tackling criminal activities within the bounds of the law, although concerns over alleged extrajudicial actions have been raised by rights advocates in the past.
As of the time of filing this report, authorities have not responded to the viral video or provided information on the whereabouts of the man mentioned
