President of Burkina Faso, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, on Wednesday received a high-powered Nigerian delegation led by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, conveying a message of solidarity and fraternity from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The meeting, held in Ouagadougou, focused on deepening bilateral relations between Nigeria and Burkina Faso, with discussions spanning political, security and economic cooperation, as well as strengthening integration within the West African sub-region.
Ambassador Tuggar reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to good neighbourliness and sustained engagement, noting that President Tinubu remains ready to work closely with Burkina Faso to advance peace, stability and development across the region. He emphasised Nigeria’s support for initiatives aimed at promoting regional cohesion, economic integration and collective responses to shared challenges.
President Traoré, while welcoming the delegation, expressed appreciation to President Tinubu for the message of goodwill, stressing the long-standing ties between both countries. He underscored the need for closer collaboration, particularly in tackling common security and development concerns affecting the Sahel and the wider West African region.
As part of the engagements, both governments amicably resolved issues relating to Nigerian Air Force pilots and crew, a development that underscored mutual confidence and the effectiveness of dialogue in addressing sensitive matters. The delegation also visited the detained crew, who were described as being in high spirits.
Both sides agreed to sustain regular consultations and pursue practical measures to further deepen bilateral cooperation and regional integration, reflecting a shared resolve to promote unity, peace and stability in the sub-region.
Members of the Nigerian delegation included the Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency, Ambassador Mohammed Mohammed; Chief of Policy and Plans, Nigerian Air Force, Air Vice Marshal A.
