Lionel Messi has declared he finally achieved a long-awaited dream after leading Inter Miami to their first-ever MLS Cup title today, following a 3–1 victory over Vancouver Whitecaps.
The Argentine superstar played a decisive role in the final, providing two assists and controlling the tempo of the game as Inter Miami lifted the biggest trophy in their history in front of a raucous home crowd.
After the final whistle, Messi admitted the victory carried deep personal meaning.
“This is the moment I’ve been waiting for,” he said. “I came here with a clear goal – to help this club grow, to make history, and today we achieved that together.”
Inter Miami opened the scoring early through a deflected effort that wrong-footed the Vancouver goalkeeper. The visitors pulled level in the second half with a well-taken finish that briefly threatened to swing momentum their way.
However, Messi stepped up when it mattered most. He set up the go-ahead goal with a perfectly weighted pass before supplying another assist deep into stoppage time to seal the result and ignite wild celebrations inside the stadium.
The triumph marks a historic milestone for Inter Miami, who were founded just a few years ago but have rapidly transformed since Messi’s arrival. The club now have their first MLS Cup, firmly establishing themselves as one of the league’s elite sides.
For Messi, the win adds another major honour to his legendary career and serves as validation of his move to American football, where he has helped elevate the profile of Major League Soccer worldwide
