Former Manchester United and France defender Patrice Evra has announced the death of his mother, Juliette, following her battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
Evra shared the heartbreaking news in an emotional video posted on social media, where he paid tribute to his mother while singing a song by French hip-hop group Sexion d’Assaut.
The visibly emotional former defender described his mother as his “rock” and urged people who still have their mothers to cherish and express their love for them every day.
“A mother’s love is forever,” Evra wrote in a tribute accompanying the video, adding that his mother would always remain in his heart.
Evra had previously spoken publicly about his mother’s health challenges and the profound influence she had on his life.
Juliette lost her left leg after being rushed to hospital in 2010, an experience that deeply affected the former footballer. Evra later adopted the habit of appearing in some of his social media videos without his left shoe as a personal tribute to his mother.
The 45-year-old former Manchester United star described the gesture as a way of keeping the memory of his “hero” close to him.
