Imo State governor, Hope Uzodinma has said he plans to rename the state-owned Imo State University after the late Chief of Staff to the President Muhammadu Buhari, Abba Kyari who died of coronavirus complications on Friday April 17 and was buried in Abuja on Saturday April 18.

This was revealed on Monday when the university staff management led by the Vice Chancellor, Adaobi Obasi, paid a visit to the governor at Government House, in Owerri.

According to a statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Oguwuike Nwachuku, Uzodinma said Kyari played a pivotal role in the liberation of Imo State. Adding that ‘no gesture is too big for a man who died as a patriot’.

He however did not expatiate what he meant by the COS playing a pivotal role in liberating the people of Imo.

The governor also said that consultations were underway with relevant stakeholders both in the education sector and in the state to critically look at the plan to rename the university and take a decision.

He however urged the management staff of IMSU to live up to expectation while reiterating his administration’s commitment to providing quality education in the state.

Uzodinma also noted that Imo State University as the epicenter cannot be left behind.

On her part, the IMSU VC commended the governor for a job well done so far and called for total support to the governor to enable him to succeed.
