The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Benjamin Kalu, is set to join the Abia State 2027 governorship race under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), according to sources familiar with the development.

Reliable sources within his camp told The MeridianSpy that the lawmaker has concluded key consultations and is preparing to formally signal his interest in the contest, with indications that the nod to run also came from the APC national hierarchy.

Although he is yet to officially declare his ambition, insiders say his anticipated entry is already generating significant interest within political circles in the state.

Kalu had, months earlier, hinted at the possibility of entering the race, stating that his participation would pose a significant challenge to the incumbent governor, Alex Otti.

Efforts to obtain an official confirmation from the Deputy Speaker were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.
