Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki has ordered the Nigeria Police Force to commence investigation into the death of the University of Benin (UNIBEN) undergraduate, Uwaila Omozuwa.

Meridian Spy reported earlier, Omuzuwa was assaulted with an extinguisher and raped by unknown men inside a Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) church at Ikpoba Hill, Benin.

The 22-year-old eventually died on Saturday midnight at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) where she was rushed to after the attack, according to a family source.

Governor Obaseki announced, hours later on Sunday, he had ordered the Police Command in the state to thoroughly investigate the circumstances that led to the death of the 100-level microbiology student of UNIBEN.

“The @PoliceNG has been mandated to identify, arrest and prosecute anyone found culpable in her death. The Violence Against Persons (VAP) Law is in effect in our state,” he said.

“Using this law, we would ensure to investigate what exactly transpired and deal decisively with the those found complicit in the dastardly act, whoever they might be. #JusticeForUwa.”
