A two-month old baby and 13 health workers are among the active coronavirus cases in Delta State.

In a press conference on Friday, the state Commissioner of Health, Mordi Ononye disclosed that the baby is responding to treatment, adding that the health workers contracted the disease while attending to positive cases in different parts of the state.

“We have recorded eight deaths which are about seven percent case fatality rate and conducted 850 tests, with a total of 7,708 calls on our hotlines,” said Ononye.

“We have investigated 850 suspects and at present, 13 health workers have been infected.

“No one should doubt that COVID-19 is real. There are confirmed cases in 13 local government areas of the state and 66 percent of those affected are males while 34 percent are females, with a bed occupancy rate of 48 percent.

The Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Chiedu Ebie however urged residents to obey safety measures put in place by the state government to limit the spread of the virus.

“COVID-19 is real and you don’t need the government to pursue you to obey set protocols. We ensure that boundaries across the state are monitored, though it has not been an easy task because some people just want to flout government’s directives.”

The state recorded no new case on Friday and now has 116 confirmed, out of the 11,844 recorded in the country.
