Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, bail in the sum of N100 million over allegations linked to the unlawful interception of communications involving the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu.
Justice Joyce Abdulmalik, who presided over the matter on Monday, ordered the former governor to provide one surety — a federal civil servant not below Grade Level 17 residing in either Maitama or Asokoro, Abuja — as part of stringent bail conditions aimed at ensuring his appearance throughout the trial.
The court further directed the surety to submit the original Certificate of Occupancy of a property valued at not less than N100 million, alongside verified salary documents, tax clearance records, passport photographs, and an affidavit of means.
In addition, El-Rufai was ordered to surrender his international passport and report monthly to the headquarters of the Department of State Services pending the determination of the case.
The high-profile case, marked FHC/ABJ/99/2026, stems from allegations that the former governor made comments during a television interview suggesting involvement in activities related to the monitoring of the NSA’s communications.
However, El-Rufai denied wrongdoing, insisting that his comments during the interview were casual political remarks and could not be interpreted as a judicial confession or admission of criminal conduct.
The development has intensified national attention on the growing intersection between politics, intelligence operations, and legal accountability, particularly amid ongoing debates over the use of surveillance and state security powers in Nigeria.
The matter was adjourned for continuation of proceedings
