The bureau of the board of governors of the African Development Bank (AfDB) has agreed to conduct an independent review of the bank’s ethic committee’s report on the allegations of favouritism against the president, Akinwunmi Adesina.

Chairperson of the bank’s board of governors bureau, Niale Kaba, in a communique, said although the bureau agrees that the ethics committee of the board of directors performed its role on the matter in accordance with the applicable rule under resolution B/BG/2008/11 of the board of governors, but an independent review was in the interest of due process and the “need to carry every governor along in resolving it”.

“The independent review shall be conducted by a neutral high calibre individual with unquestionable experience, high international reputation and integrity within a short time period of not more than two to four weeks maximum, taking the bank group’s electoral calendar into account,” the communique partly read.

Recall the US, a major stakeholder in the bank, had called for another independent investigation into the allegations against the AfDB boss, despite being exonerated of all charges by the ethics committee.

The Punch reports, Adesina, whose five – year term ends on August 31, insisted that the allegations were “concocted lies” to render him ineligible for reelection, according to a column on Friday by Buhari’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina.
