Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Akin Abayomi has clarified that the state is still awaiting the test result of a 32-year-old Dubai returnee who was wrongly reported to have died of complications from coronavirus disease.
Meridian Spy had yesterday Tuesday reported that a 32-year-old Dubai returnee died of COVID-19 in Lagos. Although the health commissioner disclosed that the deceased had underlying health condition.
“Another #COVID19 infection related death involving 32 year old, male has been recorded. The deceased recently returned from Dubai with severe underlying health condition. Following evacuation of Nigerians in foreign countries by @DigiCommsNG,” he stated.
However, hours later, Abayomi clarified that the death of the recent Dubai returnee previously announced on his social media handles earlier was ‘a presumed #COVID19 related death’, noting that “the result of the confirmation test for #COVID19 status is still being awaited”.
He tweeted: “#COVID19Lagos Alert The death of a recent Dubai returnee previously announced on my social media handles earlier was a presumed #COVID19 related death. The result of the confirmation test for #COVID19 status is still being awaited.
“I regret any misinterpretation this post might have caused. The result of #COVID19 test conducted will be published once it is ready. Thanks for your understanding.”
