Telecom Services Back to Normal After Undersea Cable Disruption – NCC
Relief for Nigerians as telecom services disrupted by undersea cable cuts are nearly back to full capacity. The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) announced today that voice and data services have been restored to approximately 90% of their peak usage levels.
The disruption began on March 14th after damage to undersea fiber optic cables along the coasts of Cote d’Ivoire and Senegal. The NCC reports that mobile network operators were able to reroute traffic through unaffected cables, leading to the significant restoration of services.
“We are pleased to announce that services are nearly back to normal,” said NCC Director of Public Affairs Reuben Muoka. “Mobile Network Operators have assured us that data and voice services will continue to function optimally while repairs to the undersea cables are completed.”
The NCC expressed its appreciation to telecom consumers for their patience and understanding during the service disruption.
While some users may still experience occasional slowdowns, this announcement signifies a major improvement for those who rely on phone and internet connectivity in Nigeria. Full restoration of services is expected once repairs on the undersea cables are finalized.
