The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has unveiled its official timetable for the sale of forms, screening of aspirants, and primary elections ahead of the 2027 general polls, promising a transparent and inclusive process.
In a statement issued on Tuesday and signed by National Chairman Senator Moses Cleopas Zuwoghe and National Secretary Barr. Ikenna Morgan Enekweizu Esq., the party disclosed that the sale of Expression of Interest Forms will begin on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, and end on Monday, May 18, 2026.
Screening and interviews of aspirants are scheduled from Tuesday, May 19, to Thursday, May 21, 2026, at various centres across the country. Aspirants for State Houses of Assembly will be screened in their respective states, while those seeking National Assembly and presidential tickets will appear before screening panels at the party’s National Headquarters in Abuja.
Nomination Forms will go on sale immediately after the screening exercise, from Thursday, May 21, to Saturday, May 23, 2026, with a submission deadline of Monday, May 25, 2026. Appeals arising from the screening process will be entertained on May 25 and 26.
The party said primary elections for various elective offices are scheduled for May 27 and 28, 2026, while the Presidential Primary Election will hold on May 29, 2026, in Abuja. Governorship primaries will be conducted at the local government level.
In a notable move, the NDC announced it will adopt the “open secret ballot” system for its primaries, a hybrid method the party says will guarantee credibility, fairness, and internal democracy.
“All aspirants will be required to sign an undertaking in line with the party’s guidelines and code of conduct,” the statement added.
The NDC also stressed that its nomination fees remain among the lowest compared to other major political parties. For State House of Assembly aspirants, the Expression of Interest Form costs N1 million and the Nomination Form N1.5 million.
For the House of Representatives, the fees are N2 million and N4 million respectively, while Senate aspirants will pay N3 million and N5 million. Governorship aspirants are to pay N10 million for the Expression of Interest Form and N20 million for the Nomination Form, and Presidential aspirants will pay N20 million and N40 million respectively.
In a significant concession, female aspirants will pay 50 percent of the fees across all categories, while Persons Living with Disabilities (PWDs) will pay 25 percent.
The party reaffirmed its commitment to a transparent and credible primary election process capable of producing competent candidates for the 2027 general elections.
“The NDC assures members and aspirants of a transparent, inclusive, and democratic process in the sale of forms and conduct of primaries,” the statement concluded.
