You Are A ‘Political Prostitute’, Bauchi PDP Berates Dogara Over Defection To APC

The Bauchi State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has berated former speaker of the House of Representative, Yakubu Dogara over his defection to the All Progressive Congress (APC).

Dogara had said he left the PDP in order to enable him fight for good governance in his home state, Bauchi.

In a letter addressed to the Bogoro ‘C’ ward chairman of the PDP, the former speaker outlined some of the challenges in his state, noting that he could not challenge the issues raised while remaining a PDP member “without a charge of disloyalty” being levelled against him.

He added that not speaking truth to power in Bauchi, having done same under the administrations of Isa Yuguda and Mohammed Abubakar, former governors of the state, will make him irresponsible and “unprincipled politician in Bauchi State”.

Hamza Akuyam, PDP chairman in the state, in his reaction, said the former speaker’s excuse for dumping the PDP was baseless.

Describing Dogara as a “political prostitute or a nomadic politician”, Akuyam told newsmen on Monday the former speaker ought to have met the governor and express his grievance directly rather than defecting to the APC.

“Dogara wanted to leave the party before now; so the issues he brought are just baseless issues. If he had a problem of the inflation of contracts and others, he ought to have met the governor and discuss with him,” he said.

“Now, that he has left the PDP and he knew very well when he joined us in the runoff to the 2019 elections, he said the APC had failed the country, APC had done this and that so he had no reason to stay there. The only option he had then was for him to join the PDP which he said was better. Now this is a contradiction.”

“What I term him is a political prostitute or a nomadic politician who doesn’t stay in one place,” the PDP state chairman added.

“As a former Speaker of the House of Representatives, he did say that there was nothing more honourable for him than to leave our party, but I want to challenge him that what is more honourable is for him to resign the position he occupies.”

Akuyam further noted that Dogara’s seat at the House belonged to the PDP and urged the former speaker to resign the position and come back and contest it again in any other party if he is worthy of his name.
