The All Progressives Congress (APC) National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has said that, there is an ongoing process to solidify the party into a very strong institution.

Ganduje said this while receiving the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officials who came for annual verification of political parties at the party secretariat on Wednesday.

The former Kano state governor added that, APC, is already in the process of establishing National Institute for Progressive Studies, where ethics of democracy will be inculcated into party members, which will help to maintain, and improve the democratic principles in the party.

In addition, Ganduje revealed that the party will be fully digitized to enable e-registration of members for further identification of age, gender, occupation, ethnicity, from ward unit to local government, state and national level.

“We have directed that all our party offices ranging from ward, local government, zone, and states, basically, the officers must be capable. And operationally, the office must be functioning so that we can exist in terms of physical and functional.

“Also, in order to make our party an Information and Communications Technology (ICT) one, we have directed for e-registration of our members, with the believe that will even assist INEC, as a development partner in democracy. We require that so it will help us in identifying some sectors of the population”, Ganduje said.

The party chairman, while welcoming the INEC, officials promised to provide the necessary details needed to for them to evaluate the party.

He said “There is no doubt, today is a historic day, the day of reckoning, a day of accomplishment, in terms of the relationship between INEC, and political parties, especially the ruling party APC.

“I know one of the biggest problem of INEC, in conducting elections is insecurity. Everyone will say INEC, but it’s the politicians.

“So in order to understand the rules and regulations of election, in order to understand what is require to be a civilized politicians, our institution will be educating our people from time to time so that they can abide by the rules and regulations, and it will be going digital”, Ganduje said.

Earlier in her speech, leader of the INEC, delegates and the Director Election and Party Monitoring, Hawa Habibu said that, the commission is mandated by the constitution to find out and issue notices where political parties are not in compliance with the constitutional provisions as to the number, structure of the party in terms of the office in Abuja, auditing of their finances and other issues.

“The last time we had this verification was in 2019, there was COVID-19 in 2020, we had so much activities in 2021 and 2022, and it has become pertinent that we have to do so now to verify political parties to ensure that the compliance status are in order. These are basically our assignments,” Habibu said.
