Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, has expanded access to postgraduate education through a digital learning option that allows students living outside Anambra State and abroad to participate in key academic activities remotely.

The initiative, introduced under the administration of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ugochukwu Bond Stanley Anyaehie, provides an alternative to the traditional physical mode of postgraduate study, which remains available to students who prefer to attend lectures and academic activities on campus.

Through the College of Postgraduate Studies, led by Prof. Emmanuel Chukwudebere Obidimma, eligible students can access lectures, academic resources and other approved academic activities online.

The arrangement is particularly designed to support students who live in other parts of Nigeria or outside the country, allowing them to remain connected to the University without travelling to Awka for every academic activity.

Under approved University procedures, eligible postgraduate students may also participate in examinations and undertake project, thesis and dissertation defences remotely.

The digital option covers aspects of postgraduate work including proposal development, supervision, research presentations, corrections and final defence, providing greater flexibility for students whose location makes regular physical attendance difficult.

The development is part of UNIZIK’s broader digital transformation, driven by the Management Information and Communication Technology Unit (MICTU), under the leadership of Prof. Ikechukwu Onyenwe.

The University’s digitisation efforts have extended to several student and academic services, including transcript processing, tuition payment, certificate collection, the UNIZIK Student Portal, artificial intelligence-enabled biometric capturing, proctored examinations and digital clearance for graduating students.

According to the University, the digital initiatives are aimed at reducing dependence on physical processes while improving accessibility, efficiency and responsiveness in the delivery of academic and administrative services.

With both physical and online options available, the Prof. Anyaehie-led administration is positioning digital access as an additional pathway for postgraduate students to pursue their programmes, regardless of their location.
