Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA under the 2 Division Nigerian Army have rescued two kidnapped victims during a counter-operation in Lafiagi, Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State, as part of sustained efforts to tackle rising insecurity across the North-Central region.
The rescue followed a kidnap incident that occurred in Efagi village during the early hours of Friday, 10 October 2025, when armed criminals invaded the community and abducted two residents from their home.
Responding swiftly to a distress call, troops deployed at the Patrol Base in Lafiagi, in collaboration with local vigilante operatives, tracked the fleeing abductors and engaged them in a fierce gun battle. The superior firepower of the troops forced the criminals to abandon their captives and flee into nearby bushes.
During the encounter, however, one soldier and a vigilante member sustained gunshot wounds. Both have been evacuated to a nearby medical facility for treatment and are reported to be in stable condition.
The rescued victims have since been reunited with their families, while troops have intensified clearance and exploitation operations within the general area to apprehend the fleeing kidnappers and ensure lasting safety for residents.
Commending the troops for their bravery and professionalism, the Commander, 22 Armoured Brigade, Brigadier General Ezra Barkins, reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s commitment to sustaining operations against criminal elements threatening peace in Kwara and adjoining states.“The troops have once again demonstrated dedication and courage in confronting banditry and kidnapping. We will not relent in our resolve to secure our communities, and we urge residents to continue providing timely and credible intelligence,” General Barkins stated.
The Nigerian Army continues to collaborate with local security networks and state authorities in its ongoing efforts to eliminate banditry and other forms of insecurity across the country.
