The military high command announced that troops have successfully neutralized 2,245 terrorists, arrested 3,682 suspected terrorists and other criminal elements, and rescued 1,933 kidnapped hostages in three months.

This is coming as the military achieved this significant milestone in its ongoing operations against terrorism and criminal activities in the second quarter of this year.

Major General Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, disclosed this today during the bi-weekly press briefing at the Defence Headquarters in Abuja.

He added that, in addition to these achievements, troops also recovered a substantial cache of weapons and ammunition, including 2,783 weapons and 64,547 rounds of ammunition.

“Specifically, this comprised 1,169 AK47 rifles, 36,273 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, 14,764 rounds of 7.62mm NATO, 713 assorted arms, and 9,850 assorted rounds of ammunition.

“Efforts to combat oil theft also yielded impressive results, with troops denying the theft of crude oil and refined products worth over N10 billion (N10,533,131,470.00).

“Recovered items included 9,225,149 litres of stolen crude oil, 2,874,916 litres of illegally refined AGO, 29,900 litres of DPK, and 31,380 litres of PMS, among other items,” he added.

Maj. Gen. Buba emphasized the ongoing assessment and adjustment of troop operations to minimize civilian casualties and ensure compliance with international laws governing armed conflict.

He stated, “Our operations are progressing according to plan even as we abide by international laws governing armed conflict. Overall, we will do everything within the bounds of the law to make our nation safe for citizens. The military will keep up the fighting spirit and maintain stamina on the frontlines.”
