Troops Gun Down Two Suspected Bandits, Recover Rifle in Taraba

Troops of the Nigerian Army under the 6 Brigade and Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke have neutralised two suspected armed bandits during a tactical raid in Donga Local Government Area of Taraba State.

The operation, conducted on 24 May 2026, followed credible intelligence indicating the presence of armed men and gunshots in a forest near the “Welcome to Donga” signpost in Akate District.

Acting on the information, troops swiftly mobilised to the location and engaged the suspected criminals in a gun duel upon contact. Two of the suspects were killed during the exchange.

Items recovered from the scene include one AK-47 rifle, five rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, two AK-47 magazines, two mobile phones, and other personal belongings.

The Commander of 6 Brigade / Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke, Chukwuemeka Michael Akaliro, commended the troops for their swift response and professionalism, urging them to sustain the operational momentum in line with directives to rid the state of criminal elements.

He reaffirmed the Brigade’s commitment to maintaining sustained pressure on criminal groups until peace and security are fully restored across Taraba State.
