Ten Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists were killed during a fierce gun battle with Nigerian troops and allied forces near the Nigeria-Cameroon border, the military confirmed today.

The encounter, which occurred along the Rann-Gamboru Ngala axis, is part of sustained clearance operations targeting extremist strongholds in the Lake Chad Basin.

According to a press statement released by the military, troops of Operation Hadin Kai and the Multi-National Joint Task Force (MNJTF), supported by Hybrid Forces and other security agencies, conducted the combined operation to brazenly flush out remnants of BH/ISWAP terrorists operating within the border communities.

Acting on credible intelligence, the troops masterfully stormed the terrorists’ hideout between Rann and Gamboru. The resulting intense gun battle saw the superior firepower of the gallant troops lead to the neutralization of the ten terrorists.

Following the firefight, a huge cache of arms and ammunition was recovered from the scene, including some quantity of anti-aircraft ammunition. These recovered weapons are currently undergoing further technical analysis, the statement added. Search efforts are also ongoing to locate possible escapees and other terrorists’ hideouts in the area.

This operation is part of a broader strategy to dominate the Southern Lake Chad axis and prevent cross-border movement of BH/ISWAP terrorists.
