Tragedy as tanker explosion rocks Jigawa community, claims over 90 lives, raze facilities

A devastating petrol tanker explosion has claimed the lives of over 90 people and injured 50 others in Majia town and surrounding communities in Jigawa State.

The incident occurred late Tuesday night when a tanker carrying fuel from Kano to Nguru in Yobe State overturned, spilling its contents onto the streets and nearby drainage channels. Despite the inherent dangers, residents rushed to collect the spilled petrol, unaware of the impending catastrophe. Tragically, a fire erupted around 11:30 PM until 3AM, consuming the fuel and those who had gathered.

The Jigawa State Police Command confirmed the incident and deployed officers and other emergency services to the scene. The injured were immediately transported to Ringim General Hospital for medical treatment.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the accident and the circumstances surrounding the subsequent fire. The tragic event serves as a stark reminder of the dangers associated with handling flammable substances and the importance of safety precautions.

Authorities agreed on mass burial this morning
