Ten Die in Niger Boat Mishap

Boat conveying thirty four  passengers in Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger state has capsized killing ten (10) people on board.

An eye witness said the incident occurred when the boat carrying thirty four people enroute from Zangoro Bassa Kukoki ward terminal to Gijiwa Kata ward terminal capsized killing ten passengers.

Confirming the development, the director General Niger state Emergency Management Agency Abdullahi Baba Ara attributed incident to strong water waves grafting tree and water hyancinth as some of the factors responsible for the boat mishap.

He said twenty four (24) survivors have been identified during rescue and search operation.

Among those that died in the boat mishap are Naima Ibrahim, Farida Muntari, Abubakar Sadiq, Safaratu Ibrahim, and Rafiya Yakubu together with two unidentified victims among others.

Chairman Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger state Alhaji Akilu Kuta had also visited the scene of the incident to show his deep concern and smypathise with families of the deceased over the unfortunate incident.

In an interview with journalist, some of the people in the area called on Niger state government to expedite action towards finding lasting solution to the problem that has claimed many lives this year.
