A teenager, Mashood AbdulRaheem, said to be about 12 years old, has died during a swimming expedition in Kwara State.

The deceased, a resident of Babadudu compound, Ita Merin, Ilorin West LGA of the state, left the house with two of his friends early on Sunday morning to fish at a stream in Oloje, it was learnt.

City & Crime gathered that during the fishing exercise, Moshood mistakenly slipped into the river and drowned.

“It was the shout for help from his colleagues that alerted residents, who rushed to rescue him.

“He was however pronounced dead at a nearby hospital where he was rushed to,” a source added.

Another source said Moshood was the only child of his mother, “but the father had children from his second wife.

Speaking with our correspondent on Thursday, the victim’s father, Alhaji Abdulraheem, who confirmed the incident, said he had accepted his fate, though it was painful.

“They brought his corpse to me when I returned home after taking him to the hospital because I was not around when it happened.

“But I have accepted it as an act of God, and he has since been buried,” he added
