Sam Altman to return as Open AI CE

OpenAI, the company that created ChatGPT, has disclosed that it has agreed to a deal with Sam Altman to return as Chief Executive Officer.

The firm disclosed this on Wednesday, a few days after a drama that saw him sacked from the company he co-founded. Altman was hired by Microsoft a few days later.

It said, “We have reached an agreement in principle for Sam Altman to return as CEO with a new initial board of Bret Taylor (Chair), Larry Summers, and Adam D’Angelo.

“We are collaborating to figure out the details. Thank you so much for your patience through this.”

Confirming the news too, Altman tweeted, “I love OpenAI, and everything I’ve done over the past few days has been in service of keeping this team and its mission together. When I decided to join Microsoft on Sunday evening, it was clear that was the best path for me and the team. With the new board and with Satya’s support, I’m looking forward to returning to OpenAI and building on our strong partnership with Microsoft.”

After Altman was sacked last week Friday, hundreds of OpenAI staff threatened to quit if he was not returned, creating uncertainty about the future of the firm leading the AI revolution.
